Below you can find some helpful information to get you started riding / racing at our club. We cover the following topics:
– Academy of Motocross / Kickstart Program
– Bike Size / Age Requirements
Is open to all riders over 4 years of age wanting to hone their skills in all aspects of riding a motorbike in a safe and effective way.
You are required to supply your own motorbike.
Cost is $20 per day and you are required to become a member of Horsham MCC which costs $60 for a yearly junior membership
Gear you are required to wear – as a minimum to enter the Academy;
– Helmet
– Goggles
– Gloves
– Long sleeve shirt
– Jeans or hardwearing long pants (not tracksuit pants)
– Sturdy workwear boots
You do not need to have body armour and motorbike jersey, pants and boots to get started, however as you progress these will be required. The coaches and committee members can provide advice on suitable types of gear. From time to time, members have gear they will advertise for sale
ALL OTHER RIDING/RACNG AT THE TRACK REQUIRES FULL SAFETY GEAR. Example: Helmet, goggles, gloves, long sleeve jersey and motorbike pants, motorbike boots. Body armour is required for junior riders.
Kicksart program is an introduction to racing protocol, club policies and safety procedures before you start racing. Completion of the Academy of Motocross or Kickstart program is a requirement prior to getting a race licence and are held throughout the year for both the rider and guardian. If you wish to get started, contact one of our committee members for further information.
Once the Academy of Motocross or the Kickstart program is completed, you apply to Motorcycling Victoria (our state controlling body) for a race licence, which includes an endorsement to ride a particular type and size of bike. As you progress to bigger bikes, you are required to have a coach endorse your capabilities to ride the bigger bike. Once completed, the endorsement is uploaded to your ridernet profile. (moving from 85 small wheel to 85 big wheel size does not require an endorsement)
There are rules around what bike size you are able to ride, depending on your age. Committee members are available at any time to provide assistance when purchasing a bike and often know of used motorbikes for sale – if this is what you are seeking.
On any day your child/children are riding, we expect a parent/guardian to remain at the venue with the child/children. We are a small club and require a parent/guardian to volunteer their time on the day as a flag person, volunteer in the canteen or other roles suited to your skillset. It’s not a difficult requirement and we assist all volunteers in learning the role.
